What the mask claims

‘The Watermelon Glow Sleeping Mask is a luxuriously bouncy, breathable sleeping mask that smoothes and perfects skin, overnight.’ Glow Recipe

The story

I first saw this product on Instagram, when I was browsing the pages and immediate I was caught on to the ‘5000 people on the waiting list’. Do not ask me why I have a weakness towards things which are in high demand or sold out, it becomes some sort of immediate urgency. (‘The sold-out product influence consumer choices’)  I set out to look for the mask and managed to purchase it from Cult Beauty.

The review

I slapped on the mask as the last step of my routine. Note: my skin is extremely dry! The product comes in a glass jar, well packaged with a spatula provided.  Immediately I could smell the fresh watermelon scent, I’m not usually someone to like scents but this one is definitely an exception. I took two scoops of product and placed it in my hand. After massaging it into my skin, I did not feel that the mask did much more than provide a little more moisture to my overall routine. The mask absorbed quickly and my skin had somewhat a mattified texture. I was sceptical as to whether I would see the ‘glow’ as promised the following morning. The very next morning, I saw nothing different. I feel like the product just wasn’t hydrating enough for me and more suited towards a more oily skin type.

On the box there are two recommended methods of using the mask:

I have tried both methods of using the mask but unfortunately, the effect has been quite similar.

The best bits

I love the scent, so if you love the scent of fresh watermelon you will definitely enjoy the scent!

I think the jelly texture of the sleeping mask will allow it to work well with oily skin types. Because of this very texture, it makes it very much sleep-friendly aka. it doesn’t smear all over your sheets.

The sleeping mask is free of parabens, sulfates and phthalates.

The worst bits

Would I repurchase?

In short, the answer is no. There are so many alternatives better priced in place of this product on the market. I enjoy the scent but wish the moisture or ‘glow’ was sustained when applied to my dry skin. I will unlikely finish the product just because my dry skin needs something slightly more heavy duty.
